INTRAVENOUS (IV) SEDATION

IV sedation is where a sedative drug is given through a small needle in the back of your hand or arm. Once you feel drowsy and sufficiently relaxed, your mouth will be numbed before the treatment. During the procedure you will feel relaxed and largely unaware of what is going on, in fact many patients do not remember part or all of their treatment. However, you will remain conscious throughout and able to follow requests from the dentist. The sedative that we use is safe, takes effect quickly and the dosage can be easily manipulated by the dentist to achieve the desired level of sedation.

To minimise the number of sedation appointments, we will endeavour to carry out as much of the treatment as possible in one appointment. At the end of your treatment, we will allow time for your recovery until you are fit enough to be discharged home with your escort.
